Lessons at Green Savannah Stables, Inc.
Green Savannah Stables, Inc. welcomes new instructor, Kimberly Bryan!
Green Savannah Stables, Inc. has offered riding lessons for a number of years. We currently have three active riding instructors at Green Savannah with varied backgrounds and specialties of instruction.
Basic Information About Lessons at Green Savannah Stables, Inc.
All lessons are focused on safety of both horse and rider and center on helping the rider to achieve his or her own personal goals.
All Riders must wear a helmet when mounted on a horse. Riders must purchase their own helmet. They should wear sturdy shoes such as thick tennis shoes (Nike type not keds), hiking boots, etc. and long pants (jeans or kakis). As riders become more experienced and/or committed to pursuing the sport, we can guide you toward making other clothing purchases such as breeches, paddock boots, half-chaps and tall boots.
All Riders must fill out and sign a rider release before the first lesson. Click on the link at the bottom of this page to download and print a rider release form. Bring it with you to your first lesson.
Payment is due at the time of the lesson. Cash or checks are accepted.
Lessons are run on a tight schedule. Please text your instructor if you are going to be late. Please understand that this time may come out of your hour lesson time.
Parents may drop their child off for lessons. They do not need to stay unless they want to stay to watch the lesson. However, please try not to be late when picking your child up. The instructor will have to move on to the next lesson and it will be difficult to monitor your child after his/her lesson is over.
If you are interested in lessons, please contact the following instructors based on your needs:
Contact Kelly Anderson (see below) if you are rider with your own horse and wish to learn more about riding English or Dressage.
Contact Kimberly Bryan (see below) if you have a child or teen who wants to learn to ride or if you are an adult who wants to learn or to “get back to riding” after having taken a number of years away from riding.
Kelly Anderson (803) 464-7654, the lead riding instructor, has taught children and adults from the very beginner levels to advance to proficient, life-long riders. A Sumter native, she has been riding since she was a child. She began riding with an interest in Western style riding but quickly decided she preferred English style or Hunt Seat which she competed in all through high school at both local and breed association shows. She also traveled the Southeast camping with the horses and riding trails in NC, GA, TN, and SC. In college, she began breeding, raising, and training her own horses and pursued an interest in dressage. She quickly fell in love with the discipline and extensively pursued advancement in this highly technical sport by working with many different instructors. She also continued to participate in local shows and trail ride while assisting with the management of Green Savannah and pursuing her career as a high school teacher. In the past, Kelly was the primary instructor at Green Savannah. However, due to her increased responsibilities with her teaching career and management of the farm, she no longer keeps lesson horses available for a lesson program. She now only teaches lessons for those have their own horse and have mastered the basics of riding and are looking to polish their riding or move forward in their learning of basic English or Dressage riding. She is available to travel to local farms for a small travel fee. (803) 464-7654
Kimberly Bryan (803) 847-6203 is a newly available riding instructor at Green Savannah Stables, Inc. Kim, a Sumter native, has been riding since her teenage years. As a young adult, she began to seriously pursue training and showing her horses throughout the state. Kim found much success at the open show level in both English and Western classes. She also spent some time honing her skills in the jumping arena and learning the basics of hunter riding while also beginning to share with her own young son her love of horses. Kim is also an avid trail rider who continues to attend large, organized trail rides throughout South Carolina as well as participating in several open show circuits. Kim is available to teach lessons to anyone who is interested in learning to ride. She accepts riders 5 years of age to adults. She can teach basic English or Western riding. She has two experienced lesson horses available. Contact her for more information at (803) 847-6203.
Bobby Anderson, President of Green Savannah Stables, Inc., has been riding since he was a child raised on a local farm. Bobby is a master trail rider and rides Walking Horses, which are horses bred to have a smooth riding gait. Bobby has ridden trails for his entire life across the Southeast and is still an avid rider who participates regularly in large, organized trail rides throughout the state. Bobby specializes in lessons for those individuals, most adults, who are interested in learning to ride smooth gaited Walking Horses and learn to trail ride. He currently does not have any spots available in his lesson schedule. We will post here if he has any availability in the future. Feel free to email us at email@example.com if you would like to be added to our waiting list for lessons with Bobby.
Haul in/Arena Fee:
We require a $5 haul in/arena fee for those who trailer in from other barns to ride at our facility for lessons, etc. Anyone interested in trailering in should contact Kelly at 803-464-7654 or firstname.lastname@example.org
